Service-Learning

服务学习

Service-Learning is integral to Hwa Chong culture and our core value of 饮水思源 (remembering our roots and honouring our benefactors). Hwa Chongians serve and care for the community by initiating Service-Learning projects and collaborating with beneficiaries through sustainable partnerships.

Our annual Service-Learning Summit is also a key platform that gathers students, both from Hwa Chong and other schools, to learn the best practices from impactful Service-Learning projects, as well as to learn about community needs through invited community partners.

Here, we showcase 3 Service-Learning projects led by Hwa Chongians that have impacted the community.

Project Integrate X

“Service Learning has taught us not to give up on our beneficiaries and to continue dedicating our lives to ensuring their well-being. For over a decade, Project Integrate has stood by our migrant workers, who toil tirelessly to build our nation amidst heartbreaking struggles. Despite their sacrifices, they continue to face exploitation and discrimination. Project Integrate X remains committed to uplifting their welfare through advocacy and support, promoting their mental and physical well-being.”

Project Curae 6.0

“Project Curae’s purpose has always been to engage with seniors with dementia, enabling them to participate in meaningful conversations and regain their self-confidence and sense of purpose. We’ve had the opportunity to plan and execute several innovative and interactive games and activities for seniors with dementia at our beneficiary, Yong-en Care Centre. Our interactions with the seniors have helped us gain a deeper understanding of the thoughts and feelings of dementia patients, as well as the challenges they face. We hope to continue bringing smiles to these seniors while enriching their lives in the process.”

Project Alleviate 5.0

“Everybody can be great because everybody can serve.” – Martin Luther King, Jr. Making a difference in others’ lives is one of the greatest gifts we can receive. Our Service Learning experience provided us with opportunities to develop various skills such as teamwork, leadership, and coordination with our beneficiary, while also bringing us closer as a team. It is an experience that requires hard work but becomes truly meaningful when we see the impact we have made.
